Grow it, Live it, Eat it

We produced this short documentary in October 2015 for the Facilities Department at Lancaster University.  This is the third year running that we have worked for the Department, specifically producing a film which is to be used at the Green Gown Awards in November.  This film is all about sustainability and food growth at the University.  There are all sorts of growing projects going on at the Uni – recently, orchards have been planted all over campus, they have an ‘eco hub’ (allotment to the rest of us) which is worked on by many student and staff volunteers, there are herb gardens and fruit gardens all over campus too.  It’s brilliant!

Responding to a brief which needs to be completed in the outdoors in the middle of October is a bit daunting, namely because by October we can rely on good weather even less than normal!  We don’t just need fine weather – we need fairly still weather because howling winds never sound good down a microphone.  However, we were very lucky.  Not only are most of the interviews outside, but there is a wealth of delicious cutaways to feast your eyes on.  We pitched up over three days of shooting with a slider, a 4K camera and a mini jib which resulted in some beautiful film footage which makes Lancaster University shine.

Carbon, Environment and Sustainability Manager Jon Mills said, “I think the film looks great and it makes the Uni look fab.  It really brought out the team approach to the project as well.”

As well as being used as part of their Green Gown Award entry, this film could be used in a range of different areas – such as internal marketing about the project to staff and students via the website, at Freshers’ Fairs to recruit volunteers and on social media, so it is a very valuable communication tool.  Want one?  Give us a call – 01524 841031.
